If you have been experiencing pain in the lower part of your rectum and around your anus or have noticed bright red blood on your stool or in the toilet after a bowel movement, you could have either an anal fissure or hemorrhoids.
An anal fissure is a small tear or slit in the anus that causes a linear ulcer to form at the margin of the anus. Anal fissures can cause itching, pain and bleeding. They can extend up into the lower rectal mucosa or may extend downward causing a swollen lump to develop at the anal verge.
Counter Stools
Anal fissures produce pain during bowel movements that can persist for hours. They are caused by either extreme constipation or diarrhea. With constipation, an anal fissure is usually caused by the passage of dry, hardened stool that actually tears the anal lining. With diarrhea, anal fissures are usually caused by over wiping the inflamed area of the anal canal.

Like anal fissures, hemorrhoids also cause pain, itching, burning and bleeding. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins located in the lower rectum and anal canal. They can either be internal or external. The most common causes of hemorrhoids are constipation or diarrhea which causes excessive straining during bowel movements.
Hemorrhoids can be treated with over the counter ointments, creams and suppositories. There are also all natural remedies that come in both oral and ointment forms which when used in conjunction with one another have proven to be very effective in relieving hemorrhoid symptoms.
